This is a beautiful handcrafted Australian pipe opal pendant. It has been hand-polished, and is completely natural and one-of-a-kind. It has been handcrafted by us here at Platypus Dreaming in the beautiful rainforests of Kuranda, QLD Australia, Ngunbay Djapukai country.
Pipe opal is the name given to crystal opal that is recovered from unique pipe-like structures, formed by ancient channels of descending water. The prehistoric pipes may be up to several centimeters in diameter and may be hollow or opal filled. They may swell and thin or coalesce with others to form knotted masses. These ancient opalised rivers still retain sandstone on their backs. Pipe opal holds a powerful and mysterious earth energy that helps align us with spirit that, like the opal rivers, has flowed through time to be part of a new dreaming.
Australian Pipe Opal is a really rare precious opal having formed in roundish or tubular holes in the mother rock, usually sandstone, but can be also found in boulder. Most pipe opal found is crystal opal with bright colours in majestic shades of colour. It is found exclusively in Queensland, Australia. It is cut with a layer of sandstone attached to the back of the opal. It is bone replacement, bone replaced with opal or it is ancient forest replacement wood opal. They are incredible and very rare.
