Hand carved the pendant from recycled red cedar, then burnt it to enhance the features of the grain & give it an aged look. A bronze coating has been washed over to accentuate the antic finish.
A blend of natural oils and wax has been applied over a period of several days to nurture the timber and seal it.
AUSTRALIAN PIPE OPAL
Pipe opal is the name given to crystal opal that is recovered from unique pipe-like structures, formed by ancient channels of descending water. The prehistoric pipes may be up to several centimetres in diameter and may be hollow or opal filled. They may swell and thin or coalesce with others to form knotted masses. These ancient opalised rivers still retain sandstone on their backs. Pipe opal holds a powerful and mysterious earth energy that helps align us with spirit that, like the opal rivers, has flowed through time to be part of a new dreaming.
Pipe opal is a really rare precious opal having formed in roundish or tubular holes in the mother rock, usually sandstone, but can be also found in boulder. Most pipe opal found is crystal opal with bright colours in majestic shades of colour. It is found exclusively in Queensland, Australia. It is cut with a layer of sandstone attached to the back of the opal. it is bone replacement, bone replaced with opal. incredible and so rare.. such a nice character..not really visible but i wish it is visible..
Stone used have been sourced from Western Australia on the former Mooka Station, which is located about 170 km east of Carnarvon and about 850 km north of Perth. , direct from fossickers who have hand dug the crystals out of the earth themselves. We experience the Australian land is sacred and its rocks have lots of knowledge to share with us, being heart and home to FIRST NATION which the oldest living culture on the earth plane.. It was imperative to us that these stones be sourced with love and respect, ethically and sustainably. We respect our elders and follow the natural lores for new dreaming..
