This one-of-a-kind opalised ammonite pendant has been handcrafted by us here at Platypus Dreaming in the luscious rainforests of Far North Queensland, Australia. The ammonite has been hand-set in 925 sterling silver. It has been artfully polished on one side, to best show off the natural beauty of this piece. Ethically sourced and fair trade. Carry a timeless piece of Earth's history. This talisman features a 1000 pure silver tribal bead that has been hand-cut and chiseled using traditional techniques.
Ammonites are invertebrates and extinct members of the subclass Ammonoidea, class Cephalopoda, and they are millions of years old – so old in fact, that they may become opalised under the surface of the Earth. It's thought that originally these predatory, squid-like creatures would have lived inside coil-shaped shells, constantly building new shell as they grew but only living in the outer chamber. They may have travelled in schools, scooting through the water by squirting jets of water from their bodies.
